Network with other communities to promote CIT
Most CIT programs find enormous benefit in close connections with other CIT programs near them. In regions where CIT is common, these programs often mentor new programs and coordinate other training opportunities. Occasionally, neighboring jurisdictions can share resources, especially where mental health services are spread across jurisdictional boundaries. Working together, CIT programs often learn from each other and improve their own practices.
In other cases, the first CIT program in a new state or region can serve as a role model for other communities by sharing their successes and offering support to get CIT started. It is particularly helpful for law enforcement leaders to reach out to their counterparts in neighboring communities.
