Mental Health Didactics

The Mental Health – Health Didactics Topic includes basic introductory lectures on mental health. This classification would include an overview of severe and persistent mental illness, an in-depth examination of mood and thought disorders, review of issues related to children and youth, examination of cognitive disorders, special focus on issues such as PTSD and suicide, examination of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, and an introduction to psychopharmacology. This classification also discusses the civil rights of those with mental illness, state commitment statutes, and mental health assessment. Ultimately, Mental Health Didactics provides officers with a better understanding of the diagnostic and treatment issues related to mental health functioning.
