Psychopharmacology

The Psychopharmacology topic covers medications related to the treatment of mental illness such as an Introduction to Psychotropic Medications. This topic should introduce fundamental principles of medication that is associated with different diagnosis and should also include how stigma is associated with taking of psychotropic medication. Information about side effects and consequences of misinformation of medication is within the content of the presentation and the real learning experience is within the field with the officer.

General

The general topic will define classifications of psychotropic medications, and will explain key symptoms of common psychiatric illnesses. This portion of the course will also help officers identify medication used to treat the illnesses, and will explain the effects of the medications when used properly and improperly. (Fargo Police Department CIT). Some departments break the topic of psychopharmacology into adult and children.
