Community Support

The Community Support classification provides information on the support services that help make CIT programs successful. Mental health advocate organizations such as NAMI, MHA, National Empowerment Center, and Extra Mile deliver presentations on the perspectives of individuals living with mental illness. Their accounts are enhanced by the presentations of individuals with mental illness, their family members, and other advocates from the community. This classification also includes presentations on diversity. These focus on the cultural, racial, ethnic, and sexual and gender orientation issues of individuals living with mental illness. Lastly, this section addresses the issues related to military veterans and homeless individuals. The goal of the Community Support Section is to provide officers with the knowledge of the support available within their own community.
