Review agency policies and procedures for accuracy and compatibility

Based on the memorandum of agreement, individual agencies should evaluate their internal policies and procedures, and make changes to ensure the agency fulfills its obligation as part of the CIT program. Sometimes existing policies are outdated or inaccurate. Law enforcement agencies and receiving facilities should specifically ensure that their policies allow officers to quickly and seamlessly transfer a person with mental illness to the custody of mental health providers. The Steering Committee should review any new or revised policies to make sure that they are all aligned and compatible.
