Meet regularly for ongoing oversight and review

After the training, the CIT Steering Committee should continue to meet regularly to oversee and review the program. The committee should address the following issues:

  • Regularly review any data collection plan that has been developed through the program, to see whether the program is achieving its intended goals.
  • Review any feedback received from the community or recipients of CIT services, including CIT officers, providers and individuals and families affected by mental illness.
  • Review of policies and procedures to ensure they are actively supporting the goals of CIT.
  • Review progress toward short and long term goals.
  • Should be prepared to educate the community about mental illness when media attention is drawn to a tragic event related to mental health crisis within the community.

Perspectives: Many of the needs for the CIT training should be met through in-kind donations from the partner organizations or other community groups. For details, read NAMI's resource, The Cost of CIT.
